The Piccolo is a smaller version of the flute with all the same fingerings, but sounds an octave higher. The Piccolo‘s lowest note is a D whereas the Flute’s lowest note is either a C on student instruments or a B on the higher end models. Flutes vary in material from nickel with silver plating to solid silver depending on if it is a student model or higher end model. Piccolos can be made out of Silver, Resin, or Grenadilla wood. It is used extensively in classical, jazz, concert band, and world music.
