'Gray Market' Yamaha?

When a saleman tries to scare you away from a Yamaha piano sold in Japan and imported to the US as a used instrument, remember: The toughest competition for a new Yamaha is a good used one!

Taylor's Music Store:

We specialize in grade A, reconditioned pianos from Yamaha, Kawai, Baldwin and Steinway, the 4 most popular pianos sold in the US today. We do have a source for good used Yamaha and Kawai pianos, and many of them are made in Japan for the Japanese. Is there a difference? Yes: there is 4% more humidity in the wood of the pianos made for the American market. The following are reasons why this is not a real concern:

1. CLIMATE:

The Japanese climate is very humid, being an island. Our humidity conditions here in PA are very similar. Therefore, a piano made for Japan should be just fine here in PA.

2. AGE:

The 'PIANO BOOK' states life expectancy for most well built pianos to be 50 years before major work is needed. Since most of our pianos are 10-25 years old, these pianos should give you 30-40 good years.

3. PART AVAILABILITY:

Yamaha and their dealers tell their customers that Yamaha will not sell parts to dealers or technicians for 'gray market' Yamahas. At Taylor's, our pianos are always grade A, so we rarely need parts. When we do, there are many supply houses that sell Yamaha parts.

4. WARRANTY:

Yamaha claims that there is no factory warranty for these pianos. Of course, there is no factory for any used Yamaha pianos. We offer a 1 year warranty with a 3 year option with purchase and installation of a climate control system, which retards the aging process of your piano.

5. TAYLOR'S REPUTATION:

We have been serving the Chester County area for over 70 years with recommendations from teachers and technicians alike. They know that if you ever have a problem with your piano, we will take care of it. We invite you to hire your own independent tuner to inspect our piano. We are confident he will give it a clean bill of health.
