Jake Michael is a singer/songwriter and a seasoned performer who had played venues including The Tin Angel and the Mermaid Inn in Philadelphia, Steel City in Phoenixville, and the Lower Merion Concerts Under the Stars. Jake is also a multi-instrumentalist playing guitar, bass, traditional and jazz ukulele, the Cuban tres, the 10-string jarana ukulele of Mexico, and Creole banjo. He has led ukulele seminars at the Philadelphia Folk Festival and Philadelphia Folk Song Society’s spring Cabin Fever events. In 1996, Jake won the Folk Factory People’s Choice Award, and his music has been played on WXPN, WDIY, and other indie stations. In 2008, Jake’s ukulele version of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” was played on National Public Radio’s Christmas carol mash-up. Jake’s recordings include “Alter Ego” (2013) featuring Daoud Shaw, Jim Harris and Richard Redding (available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/jakemichael1), “Life’s a Mess, Let’s Dance” (2006), “Transcendental Vaudeville” (2000), and “Jake Michael; Live at the Mermaid Inn” (1998). Jake also performed with The Flying Mangos, a band playing the rhythms of Brazil, Cuba, New Orleans, and Hawaii.
