Mark Oppenlander teaches electric & acoustic guitar, 12 string-guitar, bass guitar and ukulele. He specializes in all styles of rock, blues (including slide guitar), reggae, latin, funk, classical and flamenco guitar. Mark is an adept teacher being very comfortable teaching students of all ages / beginner to advanced, from age 6 to adult. He tailors the study of the guitar to each student’s abilities and strives to make the learning process a positive experience.
Here is what a few of Mark‘s students have to say about taking guitar lessons:
Diana Hoppe – In the switch from in-person to virtual guitar lessons, the quality is as top-notch as always. Mark is an excellent instructor in either medium.
Joshua Wanagel – It has been wonderful for my son to continue learning and growing through remote guitar lessons while so many other things in life have been interrupted.
Kristen Loughlin – Taking guitar lessons over FaceTime is wonderful! It’s been great to keep learning and honing my skills despite not meeting in person.
Val Costanzo – “My son, Max has been taking guitar lessons with Mark for about two and a half years now. Not only does Mark have amazing technical skills necessary to teach guitar, he can also draw from his broad music knowledge base to keep students interested. Since we’ve moved to virtual instruction, the weekly lessons have not only proved to be an effective teaching method, but they have also provided some consistent, positive interaction. If you’re looking for a safe activity that can benefit everyone involved, check out Mark Oppenlander at Taylor’s.”
Emi Shigeno – “Wish we had found Mark earlier! My son came to him after a couple years of casual lessons elsewhere, after we heard how wonderfully one of his students played, and it felt as if he began learning to play the guitar for real, for the first time. Mark’s always upbeat and got the character of a true artist with insane musical talent. We’ve been impressed with how his lessons are well structured, punctual, and his communications very prompt and thorough. Not only has he helped my son improve his guitar techniques, the process has improved greater love of guitar and music in general, inspiring him to further study theory on his own and to compose music also.”
CJ Tywoniak -“Mark was my first real teacher, and one of the most important teachers I’ve had in my development as a musician. His focus on proper technique and musical concepts early on were monumental in helping me to properly realize myself musically.”
Julie Brun – “During our lessons Mark manages to make the guitar accessible to my 9-year-old and me with his skill, patience and humor. Taking lessons together has brought a lot of music and joy into our home.”
Joey Brun – “Mark is very funny and friendly. I’ve learned many great songs from him. Taking these guitar lessons has made me want to be a musician when I grow up!”
George DeDonato– “Mark has been my instructor for seven years. His good humor, patience, and attention to detail have made learning the guitar a great experience.”
Mark’s guitar education started at Taylor’s Music when he was 7 years old. Ten years later he was named “Outstanding Senior Musician” at Unionville High School and then went on to study at Temple University where he received his Bachelor of Music degree in Classical Guitar Performance at Temple University. Outside of teaching Mark has been dedicated to the music written and performed by his unique music group called One Alternative. Over the years One Alternative has recorded seven albums that can be heard on XM/ Sirius Satellite Radio, Pandora, Spotify, NPR, and various audio outlets around the world. They have performed at the Keswick Theatre, Penn’s Landing, the World Cafe Live and Longwood Gardens. Mark plays regularly as a soloist and with One Alternative in the West Chester area.
