Melissa Kennedy accepts students from 6 years of age. Classical music is the main style that she teaches, however, a wide variety of other styles are incorporated as well. Theory and scales are also a weekly part of her lesson program. Melissa has two recitals per year in our recital room. Also, once a year, the students perform a repertoire of pieces for a judge from “The National Piano Guild.” Mrs. Kennedy has been teaching piano for 19 years and welcomes all ages and levels. She thinks of her students as people first. In order to open the door for learning and good communication, she develops a strong rapport with each student. She has been a church organist/pianist for 20 years and an accompanist at the college level for voice majors.
Her curriculum is very thorough and covers most all music styles, but focuses mainly in Classical Piano studies. She is a member of the College of Musicians and the International Piano Guild, which prepares students, who choose to do so, for Guild Auditions each year. This gives them the opportunity to build appropriate repetoire and have specific goals for continuous advancement .
She has been studying the piano for 36 years and attended Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, studying Piano Pedagogy. Her musical studies presently include Suzuki cello, enabling her to experience a fresh perspective of being a student herself. This also presents the opportunity for her students to get experience in accompanying a string instrument!
