Since 1995, Miriam Shingle has enjoyed giving piano lessons to students ages 5 and older, any level of ability. In her teaching, she includes technical exercises and songs by rote, along with method books and supplementary materials that are appropriate for the needs of the individual student. Improvisational exercises may also be used in the lessons to encourage freedom and exploration at the piano. Her goal for piano education is to not only teach note reading and musicality, but to also spark the joy that comes from music-making and learning an instrument.
Miriam has been giving piano lessons at Taylor’s Music Studios since 2001. Having Level-2 Orff-Schulwerk and Level-1 Kodaly training, she is also a certified classroom music instructor, and has taught Pre-K through grade 8 General Music in parochial schools for 16 years. In addition, her experiences include two years at Settlement Music School in Jenkintown, teaching Children’s Music Workshop classes to the very young. Miriam holds a BS in Music Education from West Chester University, and has since taken graduate courses in Music Therapy from Immaculata College. She continues to develop her professional skills by attending various music education workshops and remaining active in the Main Line Music Teachers Association, a local piano teachers organization.
