Instrument Overview
The Trombone is a musical instrument in the brass family. Like all brass instruments, sound is produced when the player’s vibrating lips cause the air column inside the instrument to vibrate. Unlike most brass instruments, the trombone does not have valves but a telescoping slide mechanism that varies the length of the instrument to change the pitch. The Trombone is used in wind ensembles, concert bands, orchestras and marching bands. It is also used in jazz, swing and salsa music.
