Instrument Overview
The Cello is the second largest member of the violin family of instruments. It shares the same tuning as the viola, but an octave lower. Acoustic cellos are usually made with a spruce top and maple back and sides. Electric cellos are also available. Cellos are pitched in the key of C, as are all the members of the violin family. Its music is usually read on the bass clef. While present in many different genres of music, it is predominately played as a classical instrument.
