Instrument Overview
The Alto Saxophone is a member of the single reed woodwind family. There are several different sizes of saxophone with the alto being the fourth smallest. The alto saxophone is a transposing instrument in the key of Eb meaning that C on the instrument sounds an Eb. A relatively new instrument, the saxophone is usually made of brass with lacquer or silver plating. The Saxophone is a common part of military bands as well as western classical and jazz music.
