Dorothy Mackey began playing violin at age 5 through the Suzuki program in her preschool on Long Island, New York. She pursued the violin further at the University of Dayton in Ohio, where she was awarded concertmaster in her second year. She added the viola to her repertoire at UD as well, and received a Bachelor’s degree in music performance. Dorothy went on to receive her Master’s Degree in String Pedagogy from Temple University, where she studied with Associate Concertmaster of the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra Meichen Barnes.
Dorothy has been teaching private lessons for the past 10 years and teaches group violin and viola classes for several programs throughout the Philadelphia area. As a Suzuki-Certified Educator, Dorothy enjoys teaching students of all ages, from pre-school age through adult. Dorothy strives to meet the individual needs of every student, and maintains the philosophy that every student is capable of excellence.
