Maryanne Smart
Maryanne Smart is an experienced educator and musician who enjoys orchestral playing and sharing her love of music and the double bass. She has been performing in area orchestras for over 30 years and has taught music in the classroom as well as private lessons. Maryanne received a Bachelor of Arts from Holy Family University in 1979 and a Master of Arts in Music Therapy from Immaculata University in 2004. She is certified in Elementary Education and Music. Her many musical activities include performing as Principal Double Bassist for Immaculata Symphony, Chesco Pops Orchestra, and Main Line Symphony’s Messiah. With support and encouragement for their efforts, Maryanne teaches children and students of all ages. She employs learning strategies appropriate to the needs of the individual to maximize motivation during the lesson while maintaining focus on the proper technique so essential to the development of successful playing. To develop musicianship, Maryanne works with the natural musicality of the person to help them understand the music and play with expression.
