Miriam Shingle
Starting in 1995, Miriam Shingle enjoys giving piano lessons to students ages 5 to Adult. In her teaching, she includes music theory, technical exercises, method books and supplementary materials that are appropriate for the needs of the individual student. Improvisational exercises may also be used in the lessons to encourage freedom and exploration at the piano. Her goal is to not only teach note reading and musicality through high-quality music, but to also spark the joy that comes from music-making and successfully learning an instrument.
Miriam has been giving piano lessons at Taylor’s Music Studios since 2001. She was also a choral teacher and classroom music instructor for Pre-K through 8th Grade in parochial schools for 16 years, and hold certifications in Orff and Kodaly. In addition, her experiences include two years at Settlement Music School in Jenkintown, teaching Children’s Music Workshop classes. Miriam achieved a BS in Music Education from West Chester University, and has accomplished some graduate work in Music Therapy from Immaculata University. She continues to develop her professional skills by collaborating with colleagues and remaining active in the Main Line Music Teachers Association, a local organization for the independent music teacher, where she currently serves as Program Chair and Past President. Additionally, she serves on the Board of Directors for the Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association.
