At Taylor’s Music our highly trained technicians bring years of experience in woodwind, brass, string, and percussion repairs to every customer who comes through our door. Our repair shop is on-site, and this helps us guarantee the shortest possible turnaround time without sacrificing quality parts or service. This also ensures that you spend more time making music and less time waiting for your instrument to be ready. We gladly do any job from changing a string to fabricating custom modifications.

Repairs are available on most instruments. All of our repair people have a great deal of experience and are truly experts in their field. Most repairs are backed by a 90 Day Warranty.

Meet Our Technicians

Michael Millard and John Kirkner bring years of experience and excellent attention to detail to every task.


Mike Millard began his repair training with experienced repair technician Dave Cottrell at Taylor’s Music in 2006. After a short apprenticeship he attended Southeast Technical College at Red Wing, Minnesota to receive advanced training in woodwind and brass repair. Upon completing the course Mike returned to Taylors to become the permanent repair technician. Before working at Taylor’s Mike studied music at West Chester University. Mike plays bassoon and is currently an active member in many local ensembles including the Immaculata Symphony, the Pennsylvania Symphonic Winds and the Chesco Pops.



                                                                                                                                                                         John Kirkner received his instrument repair training at Southeast Technical College at Red Wing, Minnesota. A native of Chester County, he returned to the area in 2009 to work as a repair technician in New Jersey before joining the staff at Taylor’s in 2010. In the past he has served as a resident repair technician for the International Music Camp in North Dakota and has been associated with the non-profit Play on, Philly! as a repair technician since that group’s inception. Prior to beginning his career in instrument repair, John earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from West Chester University and spent a year teaching high school band and general music in Delaware County. He is an active oboist, performing with several local groups including the Pennsylvania Symphonic Winds and Quintessence Wind Quintet.


String Instruments Repairs



Headed by Frank Saam, an exceptional violin maker and graduate from The International School Of Violin Making in Cremona Italy. Frank began to study the art of violin making as a child. He worked at the House of Primavera until he was 18. He moved to Belgium to work as a restorer for a year, and then decided to apply for the top violin making school in the world – The International School of Violin Making in Cremona, Italy. After obtaining his diploma in 1992, he moved to Magnolia, New Jersey where he opened his own workshop. Frank has been working with Taylor’s Music since 1996. Some of Frank Saam’s instruments are played in the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Boston Symphony, the Dallas Symphony and beyond. For more information Email; band@taylorsmusic.com

Gina Helwig, Head Piano Technician

With over 25 years of apprenticing and experience, we are thrilled to have Gina as the head of our Piano Service Department. She possesses a wide breadth of experience in all aspects of piano tuning and service, including reconditioning, restorations, rebuilds, humidity control system installation, (Gina is certified as a Field Expert Dampp-Chaser installer by Piano Lifesaver Systems) and some refinishing.  Prior to joining Taylor’s, Gina ran her own piano service company for many years, amassing over 3000 satisfied clients.  With Gina’s gregarious, unpretentious personality, you’ll look forward to her visits as she expertly services your piano!   Choose from these service options:

Standard Tuning  – Standard tuning with no extra adjustments or repairs. (Pitch raise may be needed on pianos not tuned in a while.)

Standard Tuning with Pitch Raise – Required for pianos that have not been tuned for a while and are significantly under pitch.

Additional Cleaning Services – Additional cleaning services are available such as string cleaning, cleaning of the action, tuning pins, keys, and cabinet. Cost to be assessed at time of visit.

Piano evaluation – This includes examination of the piano and estimate for services needed. If service is completed at the time of the visit, fee is applied toward total cost.

Piano Appraisal – Includes evaluation and written appraisal of value.

Guitar Repairs

Ed Phethean has many years of experience working for Ibanez Guitar. He is also a certified technician by Ibanez, Martin, Fender and Hohner. Ed is one of the few techs that can troubleshoot electronics in a guitar, not just mechanical problems.
